Take a breath…and be grateful that you can. Many of us take clean air for granted, and forget that the United States Congress passed the “Clean Air Act” a mere forty years ago. Ed Miller of the American Lung Association of New England provides important perspective on this life-sustaining substance (air), while Rebecca Falzano, lung cancer survivor and advocate for Lung Cancer Leaders shares how it felt to be a young, non-smoking female diagnosed with a still-deadly disease.
Rebecca Falzano of Lung Cancer Leaders and Managing Editor at Maine Home + Design is a lung cancer survivor and advocate, working with the group Lung Cancer Leaders to raise awareness and reverse the stigma surrounding lung cancer. A nonsmoker, she was diagnosed in 2010 at the age of 28, just five months before her wedding day. Rebecca moved to Maine from New York City where she worked for publications including Condé Nast Traveler, Metro New York, and an architectural lighting magazine. Rebecca is now the managing editor of Maine Home + Design magazine, and she loves uncovering architectural masterpieces all over the state. She spends her spare time exploring local hiking trails with her husband, Steve, and working on their home, a sweet little Colonial in the Falmouth woods. They are expecting their first child in January, and are hoping he/she will be considered a Mainer.
Edward Miller is the Executive Director and Senior Vice President for Public Policy for the American Lung Association of New England. He is responsible for providing leadership for public policy initiatives of the organization in the seven state region. He has served in this capacity since July 2012. Prior to that he served as the Senior Vice President for Health Promotion and Public Policy for the American Lung Association of New England from 2007 until July 2012.
