A co-worker showed me the most recent issue of Maine because it featured the article about Haystack, and I have spent quite a bit of time on Deer Isle during my life. I thought the article was beautifully written, and then found other interesting articles as well. Compared with other local magazines, I was impressed by the design and layout. Although I am a Portlander, I am originally from Bangor and so I appreciate articles -- like the Haystack article and Monhegan article -- that are not entirely Portland-centric. It seems like Maine Mag does a good job of balancing coverage of the "Two Maines."

I have been reading Maine and Maine Home+Design since you started publishing and love them. The design, format and articles are clean, informative and creative! It’s your attention to details and the unique features of Maine that make your magazines stand out. I work as the Admissions Director for a wilderness therapy program for kids in Stow, ME called Summit Achievement. Kids from all over the world come to us for six weeks to unplug, go to school, have therapy, live in our community and go out on backcountry adventures. It's pretty fascinating and very few folks in Maine have any idea we're here. So, I get out of the woods whenever I can. I referred to your EAT mag yesterday, in fact, and selected Bull Feeneys for dinner last night before a Sea Dogs game. Thanks for the impressive customer service. I'm looking forward to receiving my magazines!

I moved to Blue Hill last week from Bowdoinham. I've seen your magazines around for about a year and always liked them. The aesthetics are beautiful and the content is compelling and well written. I've been meaning to order my own subscription, but never got to it. I remembered and just sat down to do it when a friend flagged for me that Isaac Kestenbaum has a piece about Haystack in the new issue. That, I definitely want to read, having taken a workshop at Haystack and long admired their facility and programs! I like the articles about the out-of-the-way, end-of-the-road kinds of places and tucked away treasures, and I like that your writers tend to use a conversational style.

My wife and I live in Portland, but knew nothing about your magazine until we were in the Gelato Fiasco in Brunswick and saw it on the table. I don't know if it was a product placement but we were hooked and I subscribed as we got home. Not sure how you are positioning yourself, but I found your approach to Maine refreshing. I do get tired of some of the Norman Rockwell aspects of other magazines. In the long run, I suppose the goal of most - but not all - Mainers is to tell of the beauty of this state so we can share it with others. I would look forward to pieces or photos in your magazine written or snapped with a unique focus. The world, it seems knows what Portland Headlight looks like, but few visitors have ever stood at the base of the column and looked up, feeling the overwhelming power of that structure. Few have spent a winter on Monhegan or Matinicus, have gone on a Puffin cruise, or took a canoe through the Scarborough Marsh wildlife preserve. And then of course there is our incredible multi-ethnic heritage about which even few Mainers know much.

The Block family from York and Kittery, Maine are celebrating this 4th of July for all the men and women that are still fighting in Afghanistan and away from their homes and family. We are counting down the days for our son, Lt. Col. Michael Block's return on the 5th of August. You ran a very nice letter from our son and a picture of him leaving almost a year ago and now he is returning! Your magazine kept him in touch with Maine and the calendar you sent was used to cross off the days until he will return to us. Thank you for your amazing magazine that provided Michael a reminder of home while so far away.

Maine is sold at our local grocery store, I always buy it when I see it! I am going to give it as gifts for the holiday to my family in Montana.

I have been reading your magazine since the very beginning and was actually at the launch party. Wasn’t that a fun evening. For all that time I have just been purchasing the magazine and thought it was about time I took a few months to subscribe.

We went up to Maine on a whim last year, and fell in love with it! The people, the place, the art, pottery, the views. You name it! It was like "coming home" when we crossed the bridge from NH to Maine. I lost my mom, who was my best friend three years ago, and it was her favorite place on earth. She always said, "go there, and you'll see what I mean." She was so right! It's like stepping back in time. Almost a place unscathed and untouched by the sadness that has found the rest of the country. Even with the economy being so bad people there still smile and say hello. They have found joy in the simple things life gives us. I don't know the story of the " heart stones" that seem to be found on all the beaches there, but all I can think, is that for each person that visits Maine they leave a piece of their heart there, permanently. Our goal is to find our way there. Receiving your magazines will bring us a little closer to home.

We have been coming to coastal Maine for vacations for a number of years now and discovered your magazine through a friend here in Knoxville, TN who also makes an annual visit. We are planning to be there on June 10th for a ten day stay and are very much looking forward to it. Both my husband and I think your magazine will be a great way to get "our Maine fix" during the rest of the year when we are in Knoxville, but wishing to be in Maine!

I just returned from a short trip to the coast of Maine and saw the magazine at our Inn. The magazine is very appealing with great articles and pictures. I look forward to future issues.

I picked up a copy of Maine when I was in Cape Elizabeth, ME last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Gorgeous design. Lovely story mix. I particularly responded to Peter Behrens’ tale “Man Seeks Sea.” I have a place up in Brooklin, ME and I’ll be in and out of PWM often in the coming weeks—I’ll look forward to picking up the next issue.

We have a cottage in Goose Rocks Beach, and I have been in Portland recently for business. I came across the magazine in Portland. Love the way Maine magazine covers Portland and the south coast, the photos and layout are excellent!

I am originally from Topsham and my wife is from Rangeley. My parents relocated to Rangeley in 1990. That's when I met my wife.

We have been buying the magazine off shelf for the last six months. We frequent the lower part of Maine quite often. We also go to the Bar Harbor area. We enjoy Maine magazine as it gives a lot of information on the areas that we go. We also like the quality of the magazine.

I originally found your magazine at our local hardware store. I loved it, then - mysteriously, they stopped carrying it. However, we come up to Maine several times a month and a few of the inns we've stayed at have carried this magazine. The articles are wonderful, and the photography really beautiful. We love the ocean - smart, upscale places we can bring our two small dogs, delicious food, art, and off the beaten path places to walk. I think you already cover all of the above. Thanks for a great magazine!

My wife grew up in Maine and her parents still live there so we like to keep up on issues. We have subscribed to Downeast for years and it seems like it has become more of a marketing magazine for people from away. I sincerely hope that you and your colleagues stay relevant for the residents of Maine, clearly extol the beauty of Maine and things we do and need to do to maintain this beauty, update your subscribers on the landscape of issues throughout the state and of course maintain a balance of it all to stay in business.

I grew up in Portland and have been living in Burlington, Vermont for 18 years. We have family and friends that live in the greater Portland area and we visit Portland regularly. Portland has so much to offer! The restaurants, arts and its proximity to beautiful beaches make it a desirable place to visit for my family. A close friend of mine recently opened up The State Theatre so we now have even more of an incentive to visit- great live music!

I actually met two of your colleagues at Rabelais and they told me about your publications. Since we love Maine we subscribed - and are very pleased!

While it’s true that we very happily live in the Silver State, I was born in Maine and graduated from Oxford Hills High School in 1980. My husband and I married 27 years ago and we visit the grand state of Maine as often as possible. Yesterday we signed a contract on a second home in Maine, something we’ve dreamed about for years and years. I was so excited I didn’t know what to do with myself and then I remembered seeing your magazines. My subscribing was in celebration!
