Allison + Barry
REAL WEDDINGS-February 2013
Photographs by Evans Caglage, DInah Jean, Jill Johnson + Courtney Perry
August 8 | Rockport
Allison and Barry met over ten years ago at his art gallery—the Barry Whistler Gallery—in Dallas, Texas, but ventured to the northeast corner of the country to marry on Allison’s parents’ 60-acre family farm in Rockport. At the end of a rainy August week, the sun peeked through the clouds as they said their vows atop a grassy hill. Artistic friends from near and far took part in the ceremony—from musicians to photographers to dress and jewelry designers. Fifteen of their photographer friends snapped photos throughout the day and their neighbor in Dallas traveled to Maine with his Beatles cover band Hard Day’s Night for the event. “The second the first note was sung, the entire party was on the dance floor,” Allison recalls. “It was a real hit!”
Why…
that dress?
Allison’s friend, Espirit designer Matthew Earnest, made her wedding dress. “It was such a fun, creative process to be part of,” says the bride. “I loved watching him work through ideas and get to the final, simple product.” At the end of the ceremony, Matthew cut her dress above the knee so that she could dance.
those shoes?
Allison wore a custom pair of TOMS—white with anchors on the inside. After the wedding, she changed into a pair of white Repettos for her dance performance of “Thriller.”
that time of year?
Allison’s family meet in Maine in early August every year. With family coming from far away, a midsummer wedding was the best way to guarantee as many as possible could attend.
that ring?
Allison and Barry’s hand-hammered rings were made by renowned French jeweler Jean Mahi.
Swan’s Way Catering? Allison knew she wanted Stacey Glassman of Swan’s Way to cater the wedding: “She has such vision, and orchestrates events seamlessly.”
that stationery?
To keep the visual theme of Maine running, Allison and Barry made their announcements, invitations, and thank you notes from Allison’s photographs of Maine, printed on heavy stock.
