“We like to tell people we met under a jungle canopy, but, really, it was at college,” says Lauren. Seven years later, there was a Christmas-day proposal on a hilltop and shortly after that, a wedding at the flower farm Marianmade in Wiscasset. The couple wanted to be married outside, and to incorporate some wedding traditions with a twist. Originally they’d planned on blues and oranges for wedding colors, but, in Lauren’s words, “it turned pink really fast!” There was the amazing pink dress, a design she’d first tried on at Kleinfeld in New York and later found in the Vera Wang collection for David’s Bridal at a great price. Lauren had a pixie cut when Gerard proposed, and Hair Creations pulled her short hair back in an elegant up-do to complement the dress. The setting was so beautiful, it didn’t need much dressing up. The clean simplicity of the decor stands out—as well as the eclectic incorporation of music, songs that chronicle the couple’s life together and encapsulate their hopes for the future.

Why…

that dress? “It made me feel really pretty, and really special. You don’t get to wear a dress like that every day, so why not on your wedding?” says Lauren.

those flowers? The couple wanted to use flowers that were in season and local. All final decisions were made by Michelle at Marianmade. She asked for a Pinterest board and took care of the rest!

that food? Although it put them a little over budget, Gerard and Lauren felt it was important to give guests a taste of Maine and offered lobster salad toasts during the cocktail hour. They also served pizza from local pizza truck the Uproot Pie Company and comfort foods like chicken pot pies and vegetable lasagna.
