Sarah and Tom were married in the front yard of Sarah’s family home- away-from-home in Kennebunkport. The home is an old farmhouse built in 1802 in the middle of town. “My siblings and I are the ninth generation of our family in the house, and it is riddled with history and legend,” says Sarah. “Over the years the house has been such an anchor for my family, and always brings us back together.” The couple lives in London and many of their guests were traveling far to celebrate, so they hired Brooke Sheldon of Lilybrooke Events to make sure everything was well organized and properly executed, with the right balance of borrowed and new.

“Our wedding was a lovely blend of Tom and I. With accents of London, our home, and Maine, our spiritual home,” says Sarah.

BRIDE’S DRESS AND CROWN: Sarah’s dress was a sample dress constructed by a designer friend years ago. They brought it back to life with a few simple adjustments. “It was ethereal and comfortable and hit the nail on the head,” says Sarah. The bride and her bridesmaids wore luscious flower crowns created by Fleurant.

BOUTONNIERES: The wheat in the boutonnieres was hand-picked by the bride and groom on a vacation in Tuscany.

TABLESCAPES: “My mom had the spot-on idea of making up tablecloths of my favorite Liberty of London fabric, called Strawberry Thief. I love all things Liberty print. We combined these with arrangements of wild flowers in different-sized glass and ceramic vases.”

VENUE: The ceremony was at the bride’s home in Kennebunkport and the reception was at Kennebunk River Club. “We choose the River Club boathouse because it looks so beautiful lit up. As a child I remember going to parties there and thinking how magical it became at night. The big sky, the sound of the ocean, the twinkle of the fairy lights.”
