Meg + Maxime, Blue Hill

Maxime and Meg had their first college class together at Colby College. They started as friends and grew into more as they created many memories together: skiing at Sugarloaf, weekends in Boston, a semester abroad in Copenhagen, and trips to Meg’s family’s summer home in Deer Isle. Each year they took a weekend trip to Acadia National Park—a send-off before returning home for the summer, Maxime to Boston, Meg to Seattle. After graduation, Maxime surprised Meg with a weekend trip to Acadia. A rainy weekend didn’t stop them from exploring their favorite places: biking the carriage roads, visiting Sand Beach, and eating at Cafe This Way. “As we reached the summit of one of our favorite hikes, Beech Mountain, the rain stopped and clouds cleared. Almost on cue, I turned to see Maxime on one knee. Even after seven years, he was still able to catch me by surprise,” says Meg.
“The majority of our guests were traveling from Seattle and France. Yet despite the distance, all of our guests were eager to make the trip and learn about our beloved Maine coast. Many turned our wedding into a longer vacation,” says Meg.
TABLESCAPES: Meg had a vision for blue-and-white striped tablecloths and ginger jars on tables, so her mom spent the year collecting the right items. Meg created the table numbers using photographs of Meg and Maxime at the same age.
CAKE: Janice Strout at Celebration Cakes made a three-tiered strawberry amaretto cake with horizontal striped buttercream frosting, and a wafer paper anemone flower.
GOWN: Meg’s mom found the dress, which was simple and elegant. “It was feminine yet fun, and I loved that I didn’t need to dress it up with accessories,” says Meg. “When I look back at photos I love how I truly looked like myself.”
