Although Portland is small in size, it took Meghan and Sean a while to find each other. It wasn’t until a professional event that the two designers officially met and exchanged business cards. “Thanks to a date gone wrong in Portland and a presentation gone wrong in New York, we both ended up at Local 188 on the same night for a long evening of drinks and conversation,” says Meghan. The proposal came two years later, Sean presented her with a ring he designed with Dan Dostie at Heron Point Gallery. She said yes.

“Hosting at a turn- of-the-century summer camp made it easy and affordable for everyone, and lent a great backdrop for the vintage theme we were after. Reclaiming the camp’s vintage heritage by branding it as Camp Hiawatha for the weekend made it special for us.”

CEREMONY: After a conversation about the power of groups singing together, the couple worked a singalong to “Stand by Me” into their ceremony.

CAMP HIAWATHA: The designers created a full brand for their wedding: Camp Hiawatha, which was emblazoned on hand-painted signs, glassware, lapel pins, stationery, and, of course, the invitations. “It was inspiring to collaborate with Sean to marry the traditional and vintage worlds. We don’t often get a chance to work together, and we consider Camp Hiawatha our greatest success.”

DECOR: Meghan and Sean spent a year visiting thrift stores, flea markets, and garage sales, amassing a collection of appropriate decor items to outfit Camp Hiawatha: taxidermy, skis, luggage, and sports equipment.
