Michelle + Eric, Oquossoc

Michelle and Eric are both journalists, and they first met on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in the ABC News newsroom. In getting to know each other, the pair discovered they had a lot in common: love of running, their neighborhood, golden retrievers, and a nostalgic connection to their special summer places. For Eric that was Woods Hole, Massachusetts, and for Michelle it was Oquossoc, Maine. They were engaged on a Sunday morning before a run in Central Park. When it came time to pick a venue, they decided on Oquossoc and the shores of Mooselookmeguntic Lake, picturing that someday their kids might learn to swim off the dock where they exchanged vows.

“The dramatic weather, big waves, and fluorescent sunset were a perfect backdrop for this celebration. The warmth of the people and the glowing tent kept the night intimate and memorable. It was our favorite day in this special place.”

LOCATION: The ceremony was held at Michelle’s family home on the lake and the reception nearby at Bald Mountain Camps. “It was a quintessential Maine experience—our closest friends stayed in a row of lakeside cabins, sat around campfires, and went skinny dipping, and our families hiked and took canoe trips. Michelle joined her flower girls for a dip in the lake hours before the wedding.”

DECOR: Kate Martin of Beautiful Days designed the warmly lit tent Michelle had dreamt of. On top of long farm tables were hurricane lamps, delicate tea lights, and pillar candles. Driftwood, collected by the bride and her parents from the lake, and white hydrangeas completed the delicate tablescapes.

TRANSPORTATION: After their vows, while the weather on the unpredictable lake cooperated, the bride and groom joined Kevin Sinnett of Rangeley Region Lake Cruises for a cruise on the Oquossoc Lady.
