Peter Nielsen returned to Maine in 2013 to launch Circus Conservatory of America, the nation’s first circus college. Prior to embarking on this challenge, Nielsen served as an officer at Vermont College of Fine Arts during its launch and accreditation. This entrepreneurial activity in higher education followed a career in business development in scientific information markets. Nielsen has also produced theater, music, performance poetry, dance, and visual arts events for more than two decades. Nielsen’s experience innovating academic programming and managing the arts was especially useful in guiding his son on an educational path to becoming a professional circus performer.
