Food Trucks
Food truck menus are small but mighty, much like the teams that own and operate them. The entrepreneurs behind these mobile restaurants focus on quality ingredients and thoughtful offerings.
Bite into Maine | Cape Elizabeth
Open seasonally in Fort Williams Park since 2011, Bite into Maine is known for serving a variety of lobster rolls. Owners Sarah and Karl Sutton have also opened a year-round brick-and-mortar location in Scarborough, and they park an Airstream trailer at Allagash Brewing Company, but nothing beats enjoying their lobster rolls with a view of Casco Bay.
YumBus | Central Maine + Midcoast
Operated from a bright green school bus, this food truck is hard to miss at farmers’ markets, breweries, and festivals, particularly in Bangor and Belfast. Owner Billi Barker’s menu includes almost a dozen sweet and savory crepe options as well as tacos.
Totally Awesome Vegan Food Truck | Portland
The terms “vegan” and “junk food” usually don’t go together, but they jive at Tony DiPhillipo’s food truck, which opened last summer. The truck’s comfort food offerings, along with its rad ’80s theme, make it appealing to everyone, vegan or not.
Northwoods Gourmet Girl | Greenville
What was started by Abby Freethy as a line of natural condiments, jams, and preserves has grown to include a food truck utilizing the company’s pantry products. The crab cakes, pastrami egg rolls, and pork belly ciabattas are often topped with the preservative-free sauces.
Thainy Boda | Portland
Created by Dan Sriprasert, chef of Green Elephant and Boda, this Asian food truck combines the beloved flavors of both restaurants. The rotating menu of Thai street food includes dumplings, noodles, and sandwiches.
Greet’s Eats | Vinalhaven
The lobster rolls alone are worth the ferry ride from the mainland, but this island food truck also offers sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, and burgers. Islander Greta McCarthy first opened Greet’s Eats as a food cart and now operates out of a red food truck near the ferry pier.
The Uproot Pie Co. | Rockland
Jessica Shepard serves pizza with traditional toppings as well as creative ones, such as a pizza with corn, chorizo, pickled jalapeños, and lime crema, from this wood-fired pizza oven on wheels. In the spring through fall, it can be frequently found at farmers’ markets in Rockland and Camden and at Oyster River Winegrowers in Warren.
