The Maine Weekender, November 19—21
You know what we’re going to ask: How’s the Thanksgiving prep going? Do you make everything from scratch and plan weeks in advance, or is ordering takeout more your style? Will you have a large gathering this year, or is a more intimate get-together the way to go? Regardless, some advice that will always ring true: be sure to get your turkey early. Trust us—we’ve learned the hard way. Here’s our roundup for this weekend in Maine:

An exceedingly rare lunar eclipse will be visible for the first time in 580 years, starting at 1 a.m., If the weather cooperates, Maine is positioned for an ideal viewing of the six-hour event. Don’t feel like waking up that early? No worries—you can enjoy the Beaver Moon on the Eastern Trail Alliance’s Full Moon Walk tomorrow evening.

Guest beers from Vitamin Sea Brewing, Hoof Hearted Brewing, Equilibrium Brewery, Proclamation Ale Company, and Magnify Brewing will be on tap, with holiday-themed food available from Mainstay Kitchen in Westbrook and Nighthawk’s Kitchen in Freeport. Plus, both locations will be holding food and clothes drives to benefit Freeport Community Services and Maine Needs. Grab a beer with friends, and give back to the community while you’re at it.
When: Saturday

Something to Look Forward to:
Ski season is upon us! While the southern coast remains snow-free for now, the mountains are slowly turning wintery, which means it’s just about time to pull your snow pants and boots out of storage to begin the annual battle against boot bite. Ready to hit the slopes? Sunday River opened today for passholders, and Sugarloaf and Saddleback aren’t far behind with tentative opening days slated for November 22 and 23. Need new gear? Keep an eye out for local ski swaps to find some early season deals before the snow flies.
