The Maine Weekender, March 11—13
The March adage “In like a lion, out like a lamb” feels particularly pertinent this week. Did you underestimate the fresh blanket of snow last night and find it to be far more slippery than expected? If you’re able to make it through a winter in Vacationland without slipping and landing with a thud at least once, we salute you. Here’s our roundup for this weekend in Maine:
Something to Do:
Ready for warm weather? Prepare for flower season by attending Flower Arranging with John Sundling at the Portland Museum of Art this Saturday! The founder of Plant Office, a floral design firm in Portland, Sundling is a florist with a background in set design. The lecture will include a flower arranging demonstration, as well as a discussion on how the “greening” of the flower industry has and will continue to affect Maine. Get tickets today!
When: 2–3 p.m. Saturday
Where: 7 Congress St., Portland
Somewhere to Go:
The promise of spring (and spring cleaning) is right around the corner! If you’re looking to refresh your home with gorgeous, handmade goods, make your way over to Portland this weekend for the grand opening of The Post Supply, a general store–style boutique on Washington Avenue. Offering a wide variety of home goods including cookware and glassware, gardening essentials, and body care products, as well as pantry staples and books, this aesthetically pleasing spot is sure to become your one-stop shop.
When: 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Saturday
Where: 65 Washington Ave., Portland
Something to Drink:
If you’ve been looking for a non-alcoholic craft beer option, look no further! Kit NA Brewing, Maine’s first exclusively non-alcoholic brewery, released its second beer this week, an IPA called Get Set that features a tropical flavor profile to titillate your taste buds. The brewery’s first beer, an American blonde ale called On Your Mark, released earlier this year, with more releases on the horizon. Order through the brewery’s website and get drinking!
Something to Plan For:
Are you desperate to get the winter chill out of your bones? Next weekend, heat up with a session in Cedar Grove Sauna’s mobile pop-up in Rockland! The wood-fired sauna will be parked at the Steel House’s stone amphitheater near Rockland Harbor, giving participants a seaside view while they sweat away their problems. Each session lasts for one hour and can accommodate up to four people, ending with an optional plunge in Penobscot Bay. Reserve tickets soon, they’re sure to sell out fast.
When: March 17–19
Where: 639 Main St., Rockland
