Happy Cinco De Mayo! Are there margaritas in your future this evening? After a dreary start to the week, we can’t think of a better way to spend May 5 than out on the back patio with a cold drink in hand. The other thing to keep on your radar this weekend is Mother’s Day on Sunday! Have you made your plans? Something to Do: 

Produced in partnership with the Maine Jewish Museum in Portland, alternative opera company Opera in the Pines is putting on performances of The Diary of Anne Frank tonight and this Saturday at 7 p.m. Based on the text from the famous diary that Anne kept during her family’s confinement while in hiding during WWII, the opera provides an inside look into the life of a spirited young woman coming of age in troubled times. Each performance will begin with a presentation by professor Abraham Peck, founding director of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Studies program at the University of Maine at Augusta, about Frank’s life and diary, and the impacts it continues to have on the world to this day.

Somewhere to Go: 

Have you gotten your Mother’s Day presents yet? If you’re out of ideas, why not have mom pick out the gifts herself? This Sunday, head over to Thompson’s Point in Portland for the first Maker’s Market of the season! Browse the wares of various local artists while you toast mom with mimosas and bloody Marys.

Something to Drink: 

If you’re a big beer fan, you’re in luck! Make your way over to the Barn at Dunn Farm in Berwick on Saturday for Oddity By the Ocean, a beer festival put on by Odd by Nature Brewing. Featuring unlimited pours from 20-plus breweries, including Odd by Nature Brewing, Belleflower Brewing Company, and Bissell Brothers Brewing Company, the event will have live music and three food tents serving lobster rolls, hot dogs, grilled cheese, and more. Grab your tickets and get drinking!

Something to Put on Your Radar: 

Ready for an interactive dining experience? Next Thursday, head to the Maker’s Galley in Portland for Palette and Palate, a one of a kind tasting from chef Amy Kane of 2Gether Private Chefs and Maine artist Laurie Fisher. Throughout the evening, Kane will pair a small plate or appetizer with a different abstract painting by Fisher every 15 minutes for about an hour and a half. Tickets include six food and wine pairings, with additional beer and wine available for purchase.
