I took this photo of my seven-year-old son, Rider, at Birch Point Beach in Owls Head back in May. Just down the road from our house, Birch Point is one of our favorite local spots. We go there frequently throughout the year, but it’s always exciting during the first warm days of the season, when we can skip putting on the winter gear. The tide pools that develop among the rocks after high tide are one of Rider’s favorite things to explore while the ocean water is still too cold to play in.
