Jessica & Patrick

August 12, 2017 | Private home on Chebeague Island

Jessica and Patrick met in 2013 while they worked for an IT security firm in Boston. During their first few months together, they talked about a shared dream of exploring the country and moving to a new state. They soon decided it was time to make their dream
a reality. Together, they left their jobs
and planned their move to California, mapping out a road trip that covered seventeen states in just 30 days. When they finally found their tiny apartment in San Francisco, they named it “The Palace.”

Jessica and Patrick discovered they were both drawn to the ocean, and in 2016, they planned a trip back to the East Coast,
to Chebeague Island: Jessica’s favorite place in the world. Patrick instantly fell in love with the island too. One day, while Jessica was showing him her favorite beaches, he proposed. Patrick wanted the proposal spot to be a special place; one that they could always come back
to visit. The couple had their wedding there too, in the backyard of Jessica’s old summer home. She got dressed in the bedroom she had grown up sharing with her grandmother and walked down a rose petal–strewn aisle to “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles. When she met Patrick at the end, the sun came out.

CHERISHING CHEBEAGUE

THE WEDDING SONG: At the weekly happy hours hosted by the company that Jessica and Patrick had worked for in Boston, a popular song was “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” by Drake. The couple found an acoustic rendition, “a perfect slow song that held so many happy memories from throughout our relationship,” says Jessica. “On the party boat back to Portland our DJ played Drake’s version and everyone went nuts on the dance floor.”

THE DECOR: Over the course of 10 weeks, friends and family helped create the wedding setting for the couple. Patrick and his future brother-in-law, Stephen, made several trips to prepare the landscape, build stairs, and sand and paint decks; Jessica’s sister designed all of the invitations and signs for the wedding day; Jessica’s mother served as the location supervisor; Jessica’s aunt and cousin created the altar and helped with landscaping; and Patrick’s brother and friends made many island treks for finishing touches. “The greatest joy was the joint effort that brought our families closer together,” says Patrick.
