With 17 locations across the state, the Maine Senior College Network—a program of the University of Southern Maine—offers myriad opportunities for exploration and lifelong learning. Senior Colleges have no entrance requirements, grades, or tests, and memberships are a reasonable cost, with scholarships available.

Senior College at USM Lewiston-Auburn College | Lewiston
With peer-taught courses, senior college students can experience the love of learning with no previous college experience. Four-, six-, and eight-week classes are offered in the spring and fall for two hours once a week.

Seniors Achieving Greater Education at the University of Maine at Presque Isle | Presque Isle
Seniors Achieving Greater Education (SAGE) brings members together in a relaxed non-competitive atmosphere to discover new things about the world and themselves. Available courses vary from three to eight weeks, and topics, range from arts, sciences, currents events, and foreign affairs to specialty courses.

St. John Valley Senior College | Fort Kent
St. John Valley Senior College offers learning opportunities for adults aged 50 and over, and membership is free to anyone over 80. Classes provide a relaxing, fun opportunity to meet others and learn a variety of new subjects.

Senior College at Bridgton | Bridgton
Senior College at Bridgton offers a diverse curriculum, from courses that are intellectually challenging to those that are just for fun. Participants share ideas, explore special interests, develop new skills, and voice opinions on local, national, and international issues.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute | Portland
Peer-taught classes engage students to discuss course material, enjoy lectures and presentations from the instructor, and contemplate life’s questions and answers. Courses are offered for eight weeks in the fall and spring, and for six weeks in the summer and winter.

Gold LEAF Institute| Farmington
A member-run organization, Gold LEAF, which stands for Lifelong Education at Farmington, creates opportunities to socialize with like-minded people who have a similar interest in enhancing their knowledge of the world around them.

Acadia Senior College | Southwest Harbor
Acadia Senior College provides intellectual stimulation, practical knowledge, and social interaction for adults 50 and older. Activities include interesting talks, informative classes, lively discussions, field trips, retreats, fun gatherings, and community events.

Downeast Senior College | Ellsworth
Downeast Senior College’s curriculum is primarily derived from downeast Maine: the land and sea, its fauna and flora, and its people. Courses include traditional, reading-related courses, and non-traditional hands-on courses and activities. Members who enroll in two courses during the academic year may take a third course for free.

University of Maine at Augusta Senior College | Augusta
Part of the worldwide movement of relaxed but serious adult education, the University of Maine at Augusta Senior College is steadily expanding with a total of 32 classes and six new instructors. Available programs extend a wide range of topics, including digital photography, poetry, and Maine history.

Coastal Senior College | Rockland
Serving midcoast Maine from Wiscasset to Camden, Coastal Senior College is a welcoming community that offers a wide range of intellectual, creative, social, and physical activities. Classes typically meet for two hours each week.

Western Mountains Senior College | Bethel
With a mission to support lifelong learners in their quest for knowledge and experience, Western Mountains Senior College provides a variety of programs and activities that foster the ideals of open-mindedness and respect for all people, ideas, and philosophies.

Penobscot Valley Senior College | Bangor
Penobscot Valley Senior College has been offering classes designed for seniors since 2002. During the spring and fall semesters, two-hour classes meet for one day a week over the course of six weeks. Occasional half-day talks or workshops are available between semesters for continuous learning. Topics range from art to zoology.

Midcoast Senior College | Brunswick
Serving from Freeport to Damariscotta and inland toward Augusta, Midcoast Senior College offers more than 25 courses, ranging in subjects from American studies, art history, fiction, poetry, and architecture to painting and drawing, computer skills, and music. Older learners designand implement the educational experiences that express their own values and interests.

Senior College at Belfast | Belfast
Senior College at Belfast is a welcome place for people to meet and exchange new ideas, explore classic and contemporary topics, and make new friends. A diverse curriculum is offered, with subjects that are both intellectually stimulating and purely enjoyable. With more than 500 midcoast members, the college is the second largest of Maine’s senior colleges.

Sunrise Senior College | Machias
Sunrise Senior College provides a curriculum of intellectually stimulating programs, practical knowledge, social interaction, and special tests or grades, and no prior college experience necessary, some classes recommend reading certain books or plays to enrich course immersion.

South Coast Community College | Wells
South Coast Senior College is a casual learning environment that is open to anyone aged 50 and older. Serving York County and seacoast New Hampshire, the non-credit courses are peer-taught. Classes cover a wide variety of topics, including ancestry, democracy, and osteopathy, to name a few.

York County Senior College | Saco
With a mission to provide low-cost educational and social opportunities for York County adults aged 50 or older, York County Senior College lets everyone partake in lifelong learning. A variety of classes are offered at three locations: Alfred, Saco, and Springvale.
