For 27 years Stuart Kestenbaum served as the director of Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle. Now the interim president at Maine College of Art and Maine’s poet laureate, Stuart tells a story about his personal connection to the September 11 attacks. He recounts telling his students at Haystack to continue to peacefully create, even in the face of the destruction happening hundreds of miles down the coast, and how the grief from the day has affected his work.
