Higher Education #55

Our most important lessons are often learned when we venture out of our normal comfort zone. This week Camino Seguro/Safe Passage volunteer Campbell Belisle Haley describes his year of lesson-learning in Guatemala, while Spencer Jones of CIEE and spiritual guide Dave Oshana offer their own insights into growth possibilities. Join us!

Guests

Campbell Belisle Haley

Campbell Belisle Haley is a Yarmouth High School graduate and current student at the University of Maine, where he is majoring in biochemistry.  He spent last year in Guatemala City, volunteering with the organization Safe Passage.

Spencer Jones

Spencer Jones is General Manager of the Gateway Programs at CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange).

During his tenure at CIEE, Spencer has helped to institute scholarship programs disbursing more than $4 million each year to students from former Soviet republics, create thousands of paid teaching internships through the Teach Abroad program, develop the CIEE Applicant Interview, expand outbound high school and gap year programming, and develop insurance programs for students studying abroad. Spencer has lived and worked in Latin America, including Santiago, Chile, studied abroad in Chile and Italy during high school, and studied abroad in Spain during college. He has also been a host father for a student from Spain.

Dave Oshana

Spiritual teacher, Dave Oshana, has dedicated his life to  support others in finding their own spiritual awakening.   “Enlightenment, for centuries, has been drowned out by popular myths and misconceptions that have sent seekers looking in the wrong direction,” says Dave Oshana, who spent twenty years traversing a weed-infested path to spiritual truth. Beginning at a young age, Dave trod a path that brought him in contact with many supposed gurus and spiritual masters but left him confused and frustrated. Then, on June 19, 2000 at the age of 33, Dave received a transmission that brought clarity about what enlightenment truly is.

Dave’s early experimentation with various traditions and “paths to enlightenment” enables him to spare seekers the disillusionment that comes with unworkable and arduous rituals. Instead, he guides students through practices that truly work towards the only worthwhile goal – their own enlightenment experience.
