Pharmacists do much more than dispense medication. As pharmacy science experts, educators and community liaisons, they are important members of the health care team. Today we speak with guests who have a special interest in the education of Maine’s pharmacy experts: Catherine Cloudman, principle at Apothecary by Design, Portland’s economic development director, Greg Mitchell, Dr. Jim Krebs, assistant dean of experiential education at the University of New England and newly minted pharmacist Dr. Kayla Stewart of Apothecary By Design.

Catherine Cloudman, principle at Apothecary by Design

Catherine Cloudman

Catherine Cloudman has a diverse career in financial and business management, providing strategic planning services to closely held and family-owned businesses throughout New England as the owner of a boutique consulting firm and as a consultant with a multi-national accounting firm. As a founding partner at Apothecary by Design, Catherine has been a key player in the strategic growth of the organization in her role heading up the Finance, Marketing and Human Resource functions of the business.

Catherine is one of the founding partners of Apothecary by Design. She lives in South Portland, Maine with her husband and three children.

 

Greg Mitchell, Portland Maine’s economic development director

Greg Mitchell

Greg Mitchell is the Economic Development Director for the city of Portland, a position he held in Brunswick and Lewiston before making the transition to the private sector in 2006.

Dr. Jim Krebs, assistant dean of experiential education at the University of New England

Dr. Jim Krebs

James Krebs received his bachelor of science in pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University  and a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Rhode Island in. He is currenting pursuing a Master of Science in Medical Education Leadership.

Dr. Krebs’ diverse career includes practice in long-term care, community, and hospital settings. He started his career at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick in as a staff and clinical pharmacist. In 1999 he joined King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where he enjoyed his role as a clinical pharmacy specialist in oncology/hematology and preceptor for pharmacy students from King Saud University. Upon his return in  2001, he worked for Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta and St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor as a clinical pharmacist. In this role he also participated in community-based services including diabetes and COPD management groups. Most recently he held a management position with Walgreens. He has proudly precepted pharmacy students for more than ten years.
