Dr. Doug Andrews

Dr. Doug Andrews, ½ of a set of twins born in Heidelburg, Germany, moved to Maine from Hartford, Connecticut at the delicate age of five. A graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, he received his DVM degree from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1979. In 1983  Dr. Andrews joined  Dr. Norman Stiles and Dr. Lesley Birmingham at the Falmouth Veterinary Hospital.

Outside interests include a lifetime of involvement with music and percussion. A retired runner, he remains physically active with the “Old Boot” hockey league, and the “Mighty Docs” Veterinary Hockey Team in the winter. In the summer you may catch Dr. Andrews on a wave surfing at Higgins Beach, fly fishing for the elusive stripe bass, brook trout or landlocked salmon, or riding his Suzuki Burgman Motorscooter or BMW LT touring bike with his wife, Elizabeth.

Dr. Andrews serves the State of Maine Veterinarians as the Maine Representative to their National Organization, the American Veterinary Medical Association and is editor of the International Association of Fly Fishing Veterinarians.

Kristen Smith, Executive Director of the Planet Dog Foundation

Kristen Smith

Kristen Smith  is the Executive Director of the Planet Dog Foundation (2004-present), and serves as the Brand Ambassador and Executive Team Member for Planet Dog (2010-present). Kristen was raised in Waterville, ME. She graduated Cum Laude from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY after majoring in Anthropology and Comparative Literature. She earned a Master’s Degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Wisconsin and subsequently lived for 3 years in Central America, where she became fluent in Spanish.

Kristen has worked in a variety of non-profit organizations both in the United States and abroad doing development and fundraising, legislative activism, grassroots mobilization and education, communications and public relations. She moved back to Maine after her many travels away in 2004 when she began her tenure with Planet Dog. She is a Board Member for the Portland Buy Local Campaign. Kristen is the happy companion to her rescued terrier mix, Roxie, and she lives in Portland.

Our “Give Back” segment highlights John Locke, therapy dog owner. John has two therapy dogs – Gypsy ( 4yr old rescue Goldendoodle) & Jake (8 yr old Labradoodle). Both dogs are certified therapy dogs with Therapy dogs Inc from Cheyenne Wy,

John lives in Falmouth with his wife, Maria. They have three grown children that share his love for animals. His son runs Northeast K9 Detectives, Inc. a K-9 bedbug scent detection company. His daughter Chelsea is his real estate brokerage partner and his daughter Anna is a fashion major in college. John and his wife spend most of their time at  work which they love and when not working they love to spend time with the family cooking. John is also a graduate of culinary school. He loves spending time with people who are sick/alone with his dogs !!!! That’s why he tries never to miss his weekly visit to MMC where he has been volunteering for the last five years.
