Strength shared is strength multiplied. We are fortunate to be surrounded by those who share their strength regularly. This Sunday, join the Dr. Lisa Radio Hour for a discussion on “Sharing Strength.” Meet four dynamic Mainers who are devoting their energy to helping their fellow citizens. Our guests include Kristin Miale, president of Good Shepard Food Bank, musician Max Garcia Conover, and Chris Kast & Byron Bartlett, participants in the Dynamic Dirt Challenge.
Guests
Kristen Miale
Kristen Miale is the President of Good Shepherd Food Bank, Maine’s largest hunger relief organization. Before her role as President, she was the founder and program director of Cooking Matters for Maine, a local chapter of Share Our Strength’s nationally recognized cooking and nutrition education program for low-income families. Prior to her work with food security, she worked for over a decade in the private equity and business consulting fields. After volunteering for hunger relief organizations, she decided to make her passion for ending hunger her occupation. She received her undergraduate degree from Boston College and her Masters in Business Administration from Boston University where she studied both entrepreneurship and non-profit management. She served as a board member and treasurer of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine and on the board of the Cumberland County Extension Association.
Max García Conover
Max García Conover has released two EPs, EP #1 and Birches Lo. In April 2013 he released his first full-length album, Burrow, through Clip Records. His quick-fingered, mostly acoustic songs are grounded in natural landscapes and flicker with revelation. In 2012 he was named Maine’s Best New Act in The Portland Phoenix Music Awards.
Chris Kast, Deb Ivy & Byron Bartlett
Our final guest is a trio: Chris Kast, Deb Ivy & Byron Bartlett, aka “Team Spicy.” These three friends are almost fit enough to do the Dynamic Dirt Challenge. They are throwing themselves at this because of the challenge it presents to them physically but more importantly because the event benefits The Center for Grieving Children and Strive. Team Spice believes the physical challenges this race represents to them pale in comparison to the challenges faced by the people who benefit from the help they receive from those two organizations. Chris, Byron & Deb don’t have aspirations for winning the race, they just want to finish with all body parts still in tact.
