Peter Behrens
Peter Behrens’ first novel, The Law of Dreams, won the Governor General’s Award, Canada’s top book prize, in 2006. Kevin Baker in the New York Times Book Review called it “Absorbing, unsparing and beautifully written…a masterly novel” and the Irish Sunday Independent said “. . . it is one of those rare books that comes along from time to time that makes you feel that you are in the presence of greatness.” Behrens’ second novel The O’Briens (Pantheon) “is a major accomplishment” said the New York Times Book Review. Born in Montreal, Behrens was educated at Concordia and McGill Universities and held a Stegner Fellowship at Stanford. He worked as a screenwriter in Los Angeles, lives in Maine and Texas, and teaches at Colorado College. In 2012-13 he was Writer-in-Residence at The Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study. Travelling Light, a collection of his short stories, will be published by House of Anansi in May 2013.
